Summer in the Blue Ridge mountains sure are sweet. The days are warm and lively and the nights are cool and romantic. No matter if you are on vacation, out on the town or want to unwind after a long days work, all are invited to relax with our featured bottle of wine on the patio at Bargello or terrace at Posana.
As our large patio in the heart of downtown becomes the place to see and be seen this summer season, the only thing missing from our table is an exemplary bottle of rosé to ring in the warmer weather. Increasingly popular yet hard to find, the rosé bottling from Bodegas Muga is a delicious and refreshing treat to those of us fortunate to try it. Known for their classic and cult favorite red wines, Muga exemplifies craft winemaking using 100% Garnacha from vines 70-90 years old to cement their belief in this rosé holding a place amongst their full portfolio. Time spent aging on its lees gives this wine a beaultiful complexity not commonly found in rosé’s. While maintaining its structure, the delicate notes of peaches, white flower blossoms, and strawberry are elegantly presented to provide a well rounded sipping experience. Perfect for a night out with the ladies (and gentlemen too!), this wine will pair with the extensive array of summer flavors and ingredients debuting on our menu. 2018 Elisa Gueneau Rosé ‘Chavignolet’ | Sancerre, France | $75
Summer is all but officially here and thus marks the beginning of rosé season. In celebration, we are highlighting a wine from one of our most favorite producers: Elisa Gueneau. Based in the ancestral home of Sauvignon Blanc, she finesses the fine and intricate qualities of Pinot Noir grown in the same region. Her sustainable approach is defined by the elegance and purity of her rosé; a wine we had to have in the cellar from the first moment we sipped it. According to the importer, JP Bourgeois, this wine “…is a standout in Sancerre for the way it so clearly reflects both the terroir and the more delicate qualities of pinot noir. Rose petal, strawberry, and citrus aromas carry over to the soft palate, enhanced by a nervy zip and a crack of chalky soil on their way to a notably long finish redolent of red fruit and sweet flowers.” Enjoy with almost any dish on the menu as rosé is truly the most versatile of all wine pairing options. Award-Winning Wine Lists
Both Posana and Bargello hold distinguished awards from Wine Spectator. Posana was Asheville’s only independent restaurant in 2014 to be awarded Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence. They have continued to achieve that level of recognition through 2018 when they kicked things up a notch and earned Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence, once again to be the only independent restaurant in Asheville to achieve this level of recognition. Posana’s cellar focuses on sourcing wine from small production vineyards with a focus on organic, sustainable, or biodynamic growing and production principles. Posana has maintained Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence consistently since 2018. Recipients of Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence offer a wine list displaying “an excellent breadth across multiple winegrowing regions and/or significant vertical depth of top producers, along with superior presentation. Typically offering 350 or more selections, these restaurants are destinations for serious wine lovers, showing a deep commitment to wine, both in the cellar and through their service team.”
Bargello, opening in October of 2019, launched with a magnificent wine list curated by Sommelier Emily Dunnaway and went on to receive the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator in 2020. We look forward to sharing our collections with you!
